Dear rich people…

An open letter to the ultra-wealthy.

I don’t mean to lump you all into one group. I am sure that many… some… of you are lovely people. This letter is not meant for you. Maybe I should start by explaining which of you I am intending this letter to reach;

This letter is for the people who drive around in cars that cost more than a lot of houses cost, and cut the rest of us off in traffic because we do not even register on your radar.

This letter is aimed at the people who make millions of dollars by utilizing overseas sweatshops and then selling overpriced goods in your own country.

This letter is written to the people who have offshore accounts so they don’t have to pay taxes, and have high-priced lawyers showing them the loopholes to get out of paying even more taxes, and then complain when the Government tries to get them to pay a little more and start crying about how they will stop producing jobs in their own country because it is all just so unfair.

This letter is addressed to the people who make obscene amounts of money, or were born with it, and then look down on the rest of us for not being rich while the companies and corporations they own and control don’t pay us enough to pay our bills.

This letter is to the owners of corporations that dump chemicals and poisons into our water and air to save a few dollars on the cost of getting rid of it properly, and thereby condemn children to go through life suffering from birth defects, while the guilty moan about having to pay for health care for the ‘takers’.

This letter is to all the people who live in resplendent luxury while children go hungry.

We can forgive you for all you do, but only up to a certain point. If you live in the one percent, it is always a good idea to keep one simple and obvious fact in the back of your mind. You are the one percent. The people you despise and take advantage of are the ninety-nine percent. This works out well for you up until you piss us off past the point where we decide that we aren’t going to put up with it any longer. But, much like the issue of climate change which you no doubt consider to be a hoax because if you accept it you will have to pay to rectify the damage you are helping to do, there is a tipping point.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it is all well and good for you to say, “Let them eat cake.” Just bear in mind what happened to Marie Antoinette when she said it one too many times.

This guy said it so well that I certainly can’t improve on it.

  4. Okay, you shamed me. I’ll stop saying “Let them eat cake” (I didn’t mean it anyway; I’ll eat the cake) but that’s as far as I go.

    Very restrained letter AB.

I’ve seen two instances of wealth that riled me this week.

First some millionaire spent about a quarter of a million pounds on a bar bill. Guess the guy earnt the money, but even if I won the lottery I would find that obscene. Nothing is worth paying that kind of money for, I can get pissed on £20 anyway.

Next Thames Water were found out for paying no corporation tax, right after they whacked our bills up and took a hefty bonus for themselves too.

I expect at some point history will repeat itself, and the 1% will be very sad to be in that designation.

  8. Has some rich person pissed you off? You should see where I live, it’s brutal for that!

I agree. Nothing else to say really.

    • There is always something else to say.

Ok then, I agree that those who are driving cars more expensive than cars not only are using their money poorly as they look down on everyone else, but that I look down on them for not helping others with that wasted wealth. I agree that those who run the sweatshops (which I possibly will run into in China) to make more money, are some of the most despicable people on the planet. I agree that those who use off-shore banks for tax dodging are immoral as, once again, that money should be used to help others. I agree that those who cause extreme environmental damage as a bi-product of their companies production of profit, are some of the worst human being on this floating rock in space. I agree that those living in mansions and flying private jets at the expense of poverty-ridden countries, are horrible. And those who deny Climate change (thanks for saying climate change and not global warming by the way, the latter and now more commonly used is so misleading) for the sake of their money making, are indescribably bad.

You’re right, there was more to say.
