Shades… Part 6…

*Warning* This post contains images of gods and goddesses wearing cool sunglasses. If you are religious and easily offended, please avert your eyes, or maybe pray for a sense of humor…

Let me start off by saying that I am not picking on any single religion. Or on all of them. This is just part of a series of posts where I stick my shades on people and cartoons and… stuff. The people of this world have created many beautiful stories to answer the question of how we got here and why we are here at all. They can’t all be right, but maybe none of them are entirely wrong either. Maybe it was part of a plan by some being or beings to create human life, and all other life, for reasons that we can’t comprehend.

Back when we were primitive wanderers, I can see how birth and death and storm and lightning and nature in all its wonders would have mystified us. We do not like unanswered questions. It is not in our nature. So we began to create ways to explain our existence. Maybe these higher beings did pick one group of people and give them the real answers. And all the other stories told by all the other people are just that… stories made up by people to answer these burning questions.

I know that each of you that has a vision of the true creator is convinced that you believe in the one true creator, and the rest of the people who believe in something a little different are just deluded. I just think that it might be a good idea to bear in mind that they are all just as convinced that they are right and you aren’t.

Because we really have quite a wide variety of gods and goddesses to choose from…

And all of them just might look really cool in a nice pair of shades…

a 6 Sometimes we turned our rulers into gods. Or they turned themselves into gods by telling us that they were.

a 5Sometimes we supposed our gods… or goddesses in this case, to be beings who were part animal.

a 8Often they were more than just part animal.

a 7But by far the most common type of god is just a larger and much more powerful version of us. It is almost like we created them in our image. But hey, why worship a scary giant octopus if you don’t have to?

a 3I sort of like to think that maybe space aliens came here and played around with simple one-celled organisms, tweaking the DNA to give us a boost, and maybe putting a little of their own into the mix. We are made of the same stuff as the stars, so if we were all part alien, that would sort of bring things around in a full circle.

a 1I know, I know. Moses isn’t technically a god. But he did work for one. I can almost hear him saying, “You can have these shades when you pry them out of my cold, dead hand.”

So if these pictures offended you, I am truly sorry. That was not my intention. I just try to be funny, and maybe make us think about things in a slightly different way, if I can. And whatever higher being you do believe in, do you really think he or she doesn’t want you to laugh now and then? Because if that is the case, maybe you should shop around for a new one…

a 2To me, that Jesus guy looks like a guy who likes a good laugh now and then.

Just sayin’…

  1. Chuck loogs good – maybe there was an 11th commandment – do not covet thy neighbours shades

I think Charlton Heston was the boss in those shades!

Poseidon is the clear winner, having already been appropriately dressed for the occasion, and bringing his own god-of-the-sea props.

That Jesus guy now looks like Neo from The Matrix.
