Yeah, if you want it to work on the main page, then you need to make it smaller. It looks like it’s too wide. 400×400 should work. Just resize the picture before you add the effect. It was working fine when it popped up in my reader. The width of the picture needs to be smaller than what the post section allows without shrinking the picture.

Yeah, I think it’s pixels. It can be bigger, just as long as the width of the gif isn’t wider that the width of the posting area.
On the theme that I use, the width of the posting area is 560. If I have a gif that is wider than that, like 600, then it won’t work on the main page. It looks like your gif may be wider than the width of the posting area. Anytime that the gif is altered from the original size – on wordpress, at least – then it won’t work.
It looks like you made that gif in that Lunapic or Mytheme site. If you did, then you can always take it back to that site and resize it. There is a resize section.
I learned all of that stuff by trail and error, so I don’t even know if I’m explaining it right. I hope I’m not confusing you.
