While we were at my wife’s aunt and uncle’s house, north of San Diego, I followed my daughter Mollie… now in her second year of college… around, while she took some shots with my camera using the macro lens. That isn’t a starfish. It is a star sewn on an American flag.

A super-close-up of the stitching on the flag.

I think that is a big clay frog that sits on the front porch. The little hair might even be an eyelash.

The teeth on a saw.

Part of a flower.

Ummm… that might be the plastic bristles on a broom?

And that could be aunt Sharon’s straw gardening hat? I should have spent less time looking lovingly at my daughter and paid more attention to what she was taking pictures of.

But it looks like a hat to me… maybe.

That is the cool thing about macro photography.

When you get really close to things, the look different.

It is a whole new, weird world down at that level.

Like, who knew that the side of a car tire was so interesting?

Photography is one of the best tools for kids no matter the age. My grandchildren have run around taking pictures as soon as they were able to hold a camera. It teaches them so many things and then look at the great pics your daughter did. Well done.
Both my daughters got my art skillz, and my wife’s logic and math skillz. If it had gone the other way… oh man…
Hahaha I can tell by your posts. It works out in the end. Your daughter has ‘the eye’ you can tell. My fav is the last. The tire. Love it.
I had so much fun watching her decide what to shoot.
You will remember it forever. It was one of those rare moments with our children. Good job!
Thanks so much. I was a house dad before it became a thing. I know about those moments.
Hanging with family?
