Don’t get me wrong, I hate a lot of things about my new job as a private security officer at an exclusive, private community. But the view from my little guard houses at the two gates isn’t bad.

The guard houses are overhung with bougainvillea flowers, and there is a fountain at each of them. This one is shaped like a big pot, with water splashing up in the middle.

In fact, the little guard houses are probably nicer than the homes of most people in some countries. 

Maybe if they spent a little less money on landscaping and a little more on updating the computer system and other equipment, I could almost be happy there… if I wasn’t naturally lazy and predisposed towards being a malcontent…
