I forgot how much fun it was being a stay-at-home-dad… way back before it was cool… and the other dads used to make fun of me.

I get to do this for at least 4 more days… YAY!

Me and Olivia rocked it!

And I have to say, there were parts of it that almost moved me to tears.

She only cried for a couple of minutes when mommy and daddy left… then I cuddled with her and sang to her, and she was asleep in just a few minutes.

Now you might think that when she woke up from her naps… yeah, I got her to sleep twice, I am that good… that seeing me come in to get her up instead of mom or dad would have made her sad, but she smiled so brightly and reached up to me, and man, my heart freekin’ melted.

We did a lot of fun stuff. It all came back to me. I am an awesome dad. I still think that the reason that my two daughters are so smart… aside from getting their mother’s brains… is that, between all the silly noises and the goofiness, I actually tech kids stuff. I talk to them like little adults. I encourage them to repeat the sounds of words. I talk about colors and challenge them to learn things. I don’t even know I am doing it. It is a gift.

Everything else… the feeding and dressing and changing, that is just the smallest part of raising a child. Remember, we aren’t just raising good kids, we are trying to raise awesome adults!

It doesn’t hurt that babies… and dogs and horses… love me and trust me.

Don’t trust anybody if babies, dogs and horses don’t trust them… they know stuff, those babies, dogs and horses.

Sharing moments with a little kid is the most magical thing that there is.

My husband and I worked different shifts to avoid daycare, but when he was in grad school and then when he was between jobs, he watched our kids while I worked. And yes, he caught a fair amount of grief from others for being “Mr. Mom.” But to be honest, I think he was the better parent, at least when the girls were little and rambunctious. Little Olivia is very lucky to have a grandpa like you.
I am just a friend of the parents, but thanks.
Lucky parents, then.
indeed
awe! 🙂
I know, right?
