Mollie turned 16… part 2…

Oh yeah, best black light dance party rave of all times, yo…

We decorated the crap out of our house…

And on top of that, we made sure everybody showed up wearing lots of good glowie stuff… and they also made their own t-shirts… (white looks awesome in black light, and you just get some special markers and let them go to town)…

And don’t forget the snacks and drinks that glow in black light. See, this is why we got the little UV flashlight, so we could go to stores and shine it on stuff and see if it would glow. Some kinds of cotton candy glow.

We also had piles full of extra cool socks and ribbons and I can’t remember all what else. Did I mention that I am on pain meds today? I threw my back out. You want to know how? Twisting and bending to mop under the kitchen table while cleaning for the party. Yeah, you heard me. This is the most embarrassing injury a man ever got. And that includes the time I threw my shoulder out pushing one of the kids on a swing. I was okay until Sunday, the day after the party. Then, as I was cleaning up after the party something went ‘SPROING’… and not in a good way. And my mildly painful back injury escalated into a full on series of muscle spasms. My wife took me to urgent care this morning. I could barely move. Now I am… on stuff… oh, yeah.

I almost wish I had been on these meds at the party, because those cups looked wicked awesome.

We also had glow in the dark bowling. You just put glow tubes inside water bottles.

Also, tonic water glows in black light. Too bad nobody likes tonic water.

Awwwwww… That is Mollie when she was very little. When she was happy she would say, “Me ha ha.” On the other side of that is a picture of her with a frown. When she was not happy, she would try to look very serious and say, “Me no ha ha!” It was the cutest thing ever. We have had that sign hanging in our living room since she was little.

a 1 a 9We had free hats for whoever wanted them.

And we had glasses made of glow sticks. Which looks cool beside that glowing, color-changing glass jelly fish thing my wife got me on our second honeymoon in Maui.

a 1 a 11We also had this huge light show thing that was music activated that we rented from a party place. That is what is casting the weird lights on the ground in that picture up there. The kids tossed glow sticks all over the ground… and in the trees… and on the roof. They lined up chairs and played volleyball with the balloons that were all over the place… each with a small glow stick inside.

I hope Mollie remembers that party for the rest of her life. She even got a signed picture of the latest Doctor Who that a friend got at a meet and greet. How awesome is that?

a 1 a 13Also, I found out that when shooting low light pictures, you have to hold the camera really still.

What great parents you are. Fabulous idea too.

Wow! I think she will “Me ha ha” (that’s too cute) for a while, as well as a memory for life. She looks a little Shirley Temple-ish in that picture. You really are good parents. Sorry about your back too. You need a new story about how it was injured. It got pulled when you were straining to get to the second story window of the burning orphanage so you could get the last kid’s stuffed lamb.

Looks pretty awesome from here…except for the clean-up job, picking up the glow sticks everywhere and the resulting back spasms.

Happy Birthday Mollie! Great party Art. You’re a good Dad.

  5. So cool! I wish I was 16 and one of Molly’s friends. You guys are quite the cool parents. I would have played Brick House and danced all night! Hope your back gets better soon.

Sorry about your back. I’m supposed to be on pain killers but the are really bad on my stomach. What kind are you on?

Did you use a tripod or monopod with some of those pictures? Some seem pretty sharp for hand held in the dark.

Awww looks like a great party!

  11. Looks awesome. I really like the glow-in-the-dark bowling – what a simple, fun idea! When you’re not in pain any more, give Mollie a birthday hug from me.
