So I took a walk early one morning while we were up in the Bay Area visiting my mom for Christmas.
The sun was just tinting the sky out over the bay, and the sleeping lady was resting on her bed of clouds… (I know, some of you still don’t see the ‘sleeping lady’ shape in that mountain, but it has been called that since back when the area was only inhabited by the native tribes, so deal with it)…
And then I spotted this awesome, towering cloud sort of rising out of the fog…
It was magical… the colors… I can’t describe them… to an artist they were almost too much to bear, knowing I could never recreate those colors in any medium…
And you couldn’t help but wonder what combination of winds could make such a thing occur…
And then maybe you recall that there is a huge-ass power plant down in Richmond and that is probably just steam from the stacks… and yet still… there is a magic in it…
And one night the sunset out the window of my mom’s house caught my eye…
And I ran up to the top of the back yard to try to get a picture that wouldn’t have freekin’ power lines in it… and no… I didn’t… but the magic was back…
As long as you completely ignore the fact that most of the color from a good sunset comes from the tiny particles of pollution we pump into the air… sigh…

They are stunning shots.
I knew you would like them
And I did
yay
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing all these photos. 🙂
thank you
I guess we take our beauty in life where we find it. Lovely pictures.
The key is to go and find it…
Lovely pictures… and yes, the pollution thing is true, I guess. I am pretty sure I get such spectacular rises and sets on account of living withing 25 miles of London. 😦 Still, as you say, there is a magic in it! Thanks for the great post… you are completely forgiven for the powerlines. MH
I did a post of pictures from my mom’s deck where I Photoshopped all the phone lines out… but you would have to search to find that one… don’t remember what it was called
Beautiful pictures. I wonder how many poets have been inspired by power plant steam and polluted sunsets?
all of them?
Cloud boner. Altostratus gets them when it rubs up against a church steeple on the skyline.
Please tell that one to an uptight Christian for me.
I will pass it along to the next fundamentalist I run into
Bless you.

Monkeys like pollution too.
They sure the heck do
It is beautiful. On the east coast, Elizabeth New Jersey has the most impressive sunsets I’ve seen! Yay pollution!
ever seen one when the sky is full of fire smoke or even better, volcano dust???
No. Just man-made toxins which are nice.
Makes you feel like we are helping
Beautiful!
thank you… I invented sunsets…
Looks like a lady to me, yep, fo sho
