So, we contacted WordPress to tell them about this attempt of ours to break the all-time record for most comments on one post, and this is the reply they sent back to us…

Okay, that isn’t the actual reply, this is the actual reply:

———————————————————-

—‘The blogger can follow the instructions in my previous reply to get Freshly Pressed. Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.’—

————————————————————

Which feels an awful lot like this…

‘The blogger’… really? That is how they refer to us??? It may have been naïve on my part to think they might actually like to get involved in this project to keep things interesting. But all we wanted was to find out what the current record for comments on one post is so we would know what number to shoot for, and they pretty much said this…

a 1 new 3

How hard would it be for them to look up the number? We didn’t beg them to freshly press the post, just look up a number, and the only number they gave us was number one…

To be honest, I didn’t contact them myself. My loyal Head Minion, Trent, from: http://trentlewin.com/ contacted them, because I am a computer moron, but that doesn’t really change the fact that this is how much support we are going to get from WordPress…

So I say we carry on with our plan. I say we try to get so many comments on one post that they have to take notice of us. I don’t think we have to take this…

a 1 new 6

We are the ones who make WordPress work… we are the bloggers… we are the ones who fill it with content… without us, this is just a big, empty space. So I say we turn that finger back around…

You can still be a part of blogging history and meet some nice new people.

And you can send a message to the overlords…

You can proudly raise the finger of revolution!!!

They don’t care because they earned no money off of it. They only really care about people who pay for their WordPress sites. That’s why this whole platform went downhill a little over a year ago.

Haha, Art, that picture of Fred Rogers is exactly the one I have in one of my posts.

He’s doing the “Where is Tall Man?” nursery rhyme (and as he was a deeply religious man, I doubt he’d ever really give anyone the finger), but that photo is still hilarious.

  3. That’s the one huge downfall of WP. They’re a nightmare to reach and not very helpful at all when one does get a response. It sucks!

ok, you expected me to look at this and NOT comment here? cereal? I got hung up on the orangutan. I see his “hand” hands with his middle finger extended poking himself in both eyes with em, however I wonder what is in his “foot” hand? This could be offensive and get you kicked off for 4 days I hear. Or maybe I made that up. because I can’t find the question on that other post to see if you have answered it yet. I imagine you have and maybe when I have a day off I will read the entire comment part of that post. Until then I will continue to drop little pearls of wisdom there. but no more one word at a time. Although it was funny to see what you, Trent, and X did with that it was very annoying to post.

  7. If you had any doubt of how WP feels …
It’s all about them making money and your comment record idea creates traffic which helps them…but it wasn’t their idea. “Awards”, challenges, and daily topics all linking blogs together creates more traffic and “builds more communities”? Who knows. Apparently they prefer a different direction…you’d think they would think it funny.
    Timethief sometimes helps.

  8. Oh my goodness – you are so incredibly funny!! Good luck – I am going to comment on the other post now.
