War on Christmas… the final chapter… maybe…

There is no war on Christmas…

It is a made-up thing…

Stop acting like you are being persecuted because we want to include everybody. Nobody is really even telling you to say ‘happy holidays’ instead of ‘Merry Christmas’. But let me ask you this:

When we the last time you said:

“Happy Pesach” to a Jewish person?

“Joyous Lailat al Miraj” to a person of the Islamic faith?

“Have a great Ramayana” to a Hindu?

“Merry Baisakhi” to a Sikh?

“Fabulous Visakha Puja” to a Buddhist?

“Awesome Beltane and Samhain” to a Wiccan or a pagan?

We just want you to stop acting as if Christianity is the only religion that matters in America. This is a little like when you keep complaining that you can’t put giant crosses on top of mountains on public land. Nobody cares. We just want you to stick an equally big symbol for all the other faiths represented in this great country.

And just so you know, if Jesus was alive today, I doubt he would be happy with people trampling other human beings to get the best Christmas deals…

I was born a Christian & I believe in Christmas. I don’t like someone trying to tell me I can’t wish other people a Merry Christmas. I will wish others a happy season for whatever their particular holiday is & will openly ask them about their celebrations so I am respectful of their traditions. I love to learn about other people’s traditions. When I was younger I had a Jewish friend & after much discussion about the symbolism of her holiday & how to celebrate it, I would buy her small gifts to celebrate all 8 days of her holiday every year. I’m like this with everyone I know. But if I don’t know about your holiday, don’t expect me to send you good wishes about it or change the way I celebrate a holiday of my tradition.

Hee! Oh so true ,,, I wrote a column a few weeks ago about the imaginary war (funny, growing up, my church gave me no indication there was a war), and in the next week I got a lovely reply from one of the readers that was the column, cut out, with “REALLY??” written across it in big red letters. Guess it could have been worse … he could have sent me Santa’s ear.

So true about those Christmas deals tramplings.

  4. Hmm. What would baby Jesus do? BTW,
Ramayana is a book, not a festival. It is like saying happy Bible. 😀

Well, Christianity IS the only religion to Christians. Everything else is heresy and fairy tales. (This was supposed to be written in the sarcasm font).
