Look into the soul of your blog…

Here is a little exercise in self-awareness that should be fun but you just might learn something.

I have this friend that writes beautiful poetry, but I noticed that may of them were about the darker side of love. So I am going to challenge you to do the same thing I suggested to her.

Go up to that little magnifying glass search button in the top right corner of your blog and click on it. Then do searches on the following words:

Sorrow, loss, hurt, hate, cry, despair, anger, heartbreak, loneliness, sad.

Then do the same thing with the following words:

Love, romance, friend, happy, fulfilled, joy, hug, kiss, smile, beautiful.

You don’t have to use these exact words. Suit the words to your writing style. Just use ten words in each search. And don’t forget to add up the number of posts containing each word. If you know more about computers than me you might even know a way to add up the actual word total.

Then compare your two scores.

You might just learn something surprising about yourself.

  1. It’s a good exercise. There are no surprises with my numbers. I am not that deep.

I figured it out….ahhhhh. I am so unobservant sometimes. OK here is what I got
Using your first seven words = 159
Using second set of seven =171

    Using the word depression=209
    Using the word love= 659

    I feel a bit better 🙂

I must have done something wrong 😦

I guess I will do this today…not sure I want to know the answer but I will blog it for you. So am I the friend haha.

  5. Just like you, the results would be far from accurate because of the cynicism and sarcasms I use on good terms. But, despite using good terms in cynical contexts, you still will get a surplus of the negatives. I don’t need to do the maths. I see my soul in the mirror ever time and know the kind of themes it spurts out.

  6. On yours, I got 30 sad and 33 happy.

  7. I got 20 for the sad set, and 89 for the happy set.

  8. My most frequent phrases were “weed” and “Disney princesses.” What would Dr .Freud make of that?

    Dear Friend,
    I am … totally … surprised!
I thought cry at 11 was a high score, as I did the “negatives” first. By the way I think crying is positive too…
Total 38, and compared to 161! I don’t know how that love word got in there 78 times. Probably there must be a mistake… I checked three times… The most surprising – friend came up 29 times and I had thought it would come up zero!
    Cool idea. I love it!
My zeros: heartbreak (yay!), loss (yay!), fulfilled… oh never mind.
Haha romance and kiss came up once each, and I think kiss was on a reblog! Balanced out with a 1 for loneliness. But anyway… who wants to know? Thought I would find real negative stuff, and have to find a way to add in some positives! What a strange and interesting exercise in self-awareness! That was fun. Ta!
    Love and hugs,
    Miles of smiles
Boodles of joy to all you beautiful people!

  10. My blog is about your soul, so I’d only be telling you what you already know.

Huh… I got 44 of the first and 47 of the second. And I was expecting the 1st list to come up more often, especially considering that I rarely write about anything positive, and I got a lot of results with “Bashar al-Assad” when I searched for “sad”.
