Here is a little exercise in self-awareness that should be fun but you just might learn something.
I have this friend that writes beautiful poetry, but I noticed that may of them were about the darker side of love. So I am going to challenge you to do the same thing I suggested to her.
Go up to that little magnifying glass search button in the top right corner of your blog and click on it. Then do searches on the following words:
Sorrow, loss, hurt, hate, cry, despair, anger, heartbreak, loneliness, sad.
Then do the same thing with the following words:
Love, romance, friend, happy, fulfilled, joy, hug, kiss, smile, beautiful.
You don’t have to use these exact words. Suit the words to your writing style. Just use ten words in each search. And don’t forget to add up the number of posts containing each word. If you know more about computers than me you might even know a way to add up the actual word total.
Then compare your two scores.
You might just learn something surprising about yourself.

It’s a good exercise. There are no surprises with my numbers. I am not that deep.
Depth is overrated
I figured it out….ahhhhh. I am so unobservant sometimes. OK here is what I got
Using your first seven words = 159
Using second set of seven =171
Using the word depression=209
Using the word love= 659
I feel a bit better 🙂
It just shows how complex you are.
I must have done something wrong 😦
I am a little surprised by your results…
I guess I will do this today…not sure I want to know the answer but I will blog it for you. So am I the friend haha.
I didn’t know if you wanted me to say it, but yes… and I got the idea from your poems.
Of course you can say it. It’s true and even if it wasn’t true it is still you and your blog so I would be honored. 🙂
I will remember that the next time you inspire me… which happens fairly often…
Hmmmm I doubt that. I haven’t felt very inspiring lately but I have a good idea of something to write inspired by my daughter. 🙂
You can’t go wrong with that.
Ok I did it but it didn’t work. I got 50 sad 50 happy. I think it is because it just searches the most relevant and I have over a 1000 posts??? Or I may start out sad but try to end it happy??? I don’t know.
You do tend to mix the two together like that one you just did. But see, we did learn something.
yes we did 🙂
We should learn stuff more often!
Ed did it on my blog and the result was almost a tie…. but I do a lot of funny stuff about sad things, so I don’t know if it counts.
Just like you, the results would be far from accurate because of the cynicism and sarcasms I use on good terms. But, despite using good terms in cynical contexts, you still will get a surplus of the negatives. I don’t need to do the maths. I see my soul in the mirror ever time and know the kind of themes it spurts out.
Not everyone needs to be more self-aware…
Hahahahaha. Indeed. Indeed. Coming from you!
Alrighty then.
On yours, I got 30 sad and 33 happy.
Meaning you can search anyone’s blog.
I did not gnow that…
I didn’t either until I tried it.
I feel like you can look right through me now
Not really. You were going to search it yourself and edit your post to include your own numbers anyway.
Are Jedi mind screwing me right now???
I don’t think any Jedis have screwed anyone except Anakin, and look how that turned out.
Anakin is panickin’
hi
……………
You really did mine???
Yes.
You were told to pay no attention to the man behind the screen… or was it a window?
A window screen
You are too good at this
At what, making comments?
Yes.
hi
………..
I got 20 for the sad set, and 89 for the happy set.
You did that romantic Monday thing…
So did a lot of people.
Even I got sucked into your strange vortex.
Bleh.
You are a black hole in the center of my cosmos, Ed.
Oh please.
Oh you’re welcome.
hi
ih
My most frequent phrases were “weed” and “Disney princesses.” What would Dr .Freud make of that?
I don’t know… but I like you all of a sudden…
Dear Friend,
I am … totally … surprised!
I thought cry at 11 was a high score, as I did the “negatives” first. By the way I think crying is positive too…
Total 38, and compared to 161! I don’t know how that love word got in there 78 times. Probably there must be a mistake… I checked three times… The most surprising – friend came up 29 times and I had thought it would come up zero!
Cool idea. I love it!
My zeros: heartbreak (yay!), loss (yay!), fulfilled… oh never mind.
Haha romance and kiss came up once each, and I think kiss was on a reblog! Balanced out with a 1 for loneliness. But anyway… who wants to know? Thought I would find real negative stuff, and have to find a way to add in some positives! What a strange and interesting exercise in self-awareness! That was fun. Ta!
Love and hugs,
Miles of smiles
Boodles of joy to all you beautiful people!
~WilderSoul (giggle)
I just make this stuff up…
That what I love about you!
Oh look – there’s that love word again! o.O
Hey… that’s cheating… Ha!
Haha – no really, I noticed the comments don’t pop up in the love word count. hee hee.
Okay… then you can go back to loving me.
I love you.
Now we are back where we belong.
Weeee beloooong….. (Pat Benatar)

Got visitors! Must run, dear Uncle. Love to meet the family one day. Check out licoriceeater on YouTube for piano-keyboard in NZ mixed with vocals in America. (My daughter and her friend.)
I just found Pat Benatar… it wanted an account… I don’t do that…
How odd… don’t know why it wanted one of those…
The computer hates me.
Ohhhhh…. don’t be like that….
It has a smaller brain than yours. Need to tell it what to do in no uncertain terms, and treat it kindly, and give it a good sleep when it stops thinking straight.
(Hmm… good care instructions for me too.)
Nobody has a smaller brain than me…
Ha! I beg to differ!
The squirrels ate most of it.
Hahaha… don’t know why that sounds so funny!
An image of a squirrel eating something that looks a lot like a delicious cake flashed into my very small mind…
Oh – that could explain it… small things amuse…. 🙂
And cake…
Mmmm… Cake!
yeah… cake
I looked into the soul of my blog and saw a yummy cake…
I bit into the whole of it and cured my tummy-ache…
yay… to bad you weren’t here for some of the poetry days…
(sigh..) Missed out again! First the cake, then the poetry days…
You gotta stay on your toes here.
My blog is about your soul, so I’d only be telling you what you already know.
You may have a point there…
No may about it; it’s here and it’s here to stay.
I don’t get my soul back… ever???
…here it is.
You got it all wrinkled… and it smell funny… what did you do???
I loved it…that’s what I did!
Oh… my…
…you’re…welcome.
Am I?
yes
whee
Don’t slip.
Too late.
Dude… I am writing a novel based in world war two London… I need you English expertise… I just posted chapter one.
I’ll have a read; if I can help I will; feel free to email if you need.
It is coming along swimmingly!
I’ve started but got distracted – no reflection on your writing – but it’s looking good so far. Don’t know that I’ll get a lot done tonight though; shrooms are on their way, I’m so excited!
yeah… oh yeah… you go boy
…well i’ll be doing that again…
good
I’ll try to get you a picture of the room we do mushrooms and dmt in…it’s a good one…outside would be pretty awesome.
You remember my stories from… the secret place, right?
I remember them well, that’s why I wanted to tell you.
oh… right… cool… shhhh…
my lips are sealed.
Your fingers aren’t…
…they are now…
ha
I don’t have the computer skills…
I walked you through it… I could do it…
Huh… I got 44 of the first and 47 of the second. And I was expecting the 1st list to come up more often, especially considering that I rarely write about anything positive, and I got a lot of results with “Bashar al-Assad” when I searched for “sad”.
Wow… somebody actually did one of my crazy ideas…??? I must admit the results you got surprise me too.
You know the saying “so crazy it just might work”? It finally did.
And I was shocked myself.
I know this will only work on some types of blogs. Mostly writing and poetry and opinion blogs. People who just tell jokes, not so much.
Oh, and if I actually did this test, I might learn way too much about myself.
You mean there are things about you that you haven’t posted on your blog? The shame.
But seriously, I’d like to see your results. You’d probably be way over in the 1st list.
That’s the thing… I write about a lot of negative things in a funny positive way. And I also write about happy things in a weird negative way. My results wouldn’t tell me and the crack squirrels anything we don’t already know.
Well, ok, I understand you want your privacy.
(I’ll just contact the NSA, they should have all that on file.)
I am not keeping secrets.
Of course. It’s their job.
