Coming soon to a blog near you!

I am posting my sci-fi novel on the interwebs…

My older daughter, Jessica, talked me into it…

And it is going to be awesome. It is full of humor, adventure, daring escapes, greed, betrayal, loyalty, bravery, and did I mention humor?

There is an unbelievable cast of human and alien characters, including evil corporate executives from an intergalactic corporation bent on weakening the universe for an upcoming invasion from another dimension, a reformed Warlord, space pirates who might not be quite what they seem, assassins, dead heads, mercenaries who nearly turn San Francisco  into a smoking crater, a not-that-bright Emperor the size of a football, and a host of others.

And the reluctant hero of the story is a cynical, slighty grouchy, 50-something-year-old, who refuses to take anything or anyone too seriously and has a sarcastic answer to every situation he finds himself in… Now who does that remind you of, hmmm?

I hope you will join me on this adventure. Of all the art I am pouring out on this blog, this novel is the one I am the most proud of. I have been working on it for two years, and I promise that you will laugh in some unexpected ways. Well, okay, you will laugh the same way you have always laughed, but at the very least you will be laughing about things you never even thought of to laugh at before. How is that for a promise?

I am also going to be adding some original artwork of characters from the book, and a complete set of notes on characters and another on races, so that you can keep all the details straight. All the chapters are short, about three or four pages, so you can read it in bit sized chunks. And my daughter’s boyfriend helped me add the handy header at the top of my blog page so that you can read just the book without being distracted by funny pictures of Dick Cheney or ninjas.

I am laying it all out there, people. I am setting my baby free, and I hope you will join me as it takes its first steps.

Thank you.

I am dedicating this weekend to reading what you’ve got for it on your blog. When it’s done I’ll do a feature post on my blog if you’d like.

    • I am touched, honored, and not a little aroused! But please, don’t just focus on my Dick pictures… simmer down, you know what I mean… There is lots of stuff down there…(ha!). Just scroll through like a tourist on crack. But I warn you. People have gotten lost in the swamp that is my mind. There are quicksand pits of cute pictures of me as a kid, funny poems, stories, tributes to my awesome mustache, and I make fun of people. Oh, yeah, I do.

Think of sharing it here as test run and getting feedback. Plus you are building an audience. You can always delete later once you get it up and running on line..

Have you ever thought about doing a comic book? It combines words with art.

Look at me, talking to you like you have no idea what a comic book is. Seriously though. I think a comic book could be something you’d be awesome at.

Oh dear…I’m conflicted too…I am all atwitter with eager anticipation at the thought of getting to start reading your novel but…I do strongly feel that you should also get the opportunity to earn the bread off the fruits of your labor. Does Jess not think you should try to actually publish? Does she just enjoy the novel so much that she thinks you should share it with us damn the profit? Sigh…why must creative genius be so hard to merge with business?

  6. Smashwords that thing! And CreateSpace! And then I should put my money where my mouth is and do that also! Because I haven’t done it!

  7. I’m looking forward to reading it.

GingerSnaap is right, I want to read it but I’d love to pay for it. I’m reading a novel Richard Daybell ‘TisAPityHe’sAWriter (see my blogroll) is selling on Amazon, Voodoo Love Song- funny suspense. I bought it because I loved the excerpt he posted on his blog. Maybe start with an excerpt while you research self-publishing. TWDittmer also put an excerpt on his blog and has his novel for sale on Amazon as well but it’s available exclusively in electronic format and I prefer a book.

Your kids will be able to advise you.

    MOST exciting!

Are you posting it here or starting another blog? This is so exciting.

There is one of those online stores that will have it printed each time someone orders it… Just saying. I can literally hardly wait.

H.H. And I were talking about you the other day. I was telling him that I think you are kind of a hidden genius. You act silly, but underneath…

    • Now I really am blushing. You need to tell me more about the self publish thing in a day or two. Let me try looking it up on line and learning what the advantages are… should I start putting it up here anyway? I am all confused…

You could always ask some of your other WordPress buddies who have already published/self published book thingies!
They can give you the 411 on how that works, I think.

I would love to read it on here, but I would also love for you to make a profit from your work, ya know?!?

  11. CDC's avatar Hobbles says:

That is so cool! Did you know you can self publish it?

    Look forward to it!

  13. Can’t wait! I’m getting my popcorn and candy now, so I can settle in.
