Space Dog! Ha! You see I have this theory that although the flora and fauna of Earth were built here -i.e. evolved here – that our design came from elsewhere. For instance even though we have lived with gravity as long as we have existed, it turns out that our bodies will work perfectly fine without gravity. How could that ever have happened? Tens of thousands of systems that all developed in only gravity, suddenly working fine without gravity? Something suspicious there.

That said, we would expect the smarter of the fauna to exhibit some choices that would reflect our interstellar nature. And so your dog did Art. You see in a weightless environment you always have the advantage in a corner – you have the most options and are safest and best prepared when lying in a corner. First of all, if you are on a mad-made object in space, quite often as it accelerates or changes direction or spins – the walls and floor can change from up to down or sideways. Much better to brace yourself in a corner so no matter the maneuver you can adjust. If you are in weightlessness and wish to propel yourself in one direction or another, then again a corner is preferred as it gives you the options of pushing off vertical walls in multiple directions.

All that said- I am sure your dog is exhibiting qualities of a space faring species Art.

    • Um… I cover where things come from in my sci-fi series… also, we might have spent a lot of time in the water. I think, after evolving on land, we became semi-aquatic for a long time. We are the only mammals that are mostly bald except for the hippo… which spends most of its time in water. Also, all our body hair points downward, following the flow of water over our bodies. And the only long hair we have is on our heads, which lets small babies have something to grasp… just saying. This would account for our ability to function in a weightless environment, right?

  2. Awww that’s adorable. I don’t have a dog but none of my grand-doggies do that when they visit. That photo needs to be rotated… just for fun.

Ha! I don’t have a picture of it, but yes, one of my dogs does this. It’s ridiculous and adorable.
