Oh yeah! I just happened to drive by a beach where the Elephant Seals were just gearing up for the mating season. So far, it is just the juvenile males who have no chance of… uh… getting a ‘date’ to the prom that are practicing their fighting skills. The big guys come in at the end and winner takes all…
I finally got down out of the bigger mountains and the steep cliffs and into the more gently rolling hills as I got back into Southern California. That picture up there is blurry because I didn’t stop the car to take it.
But then I had to stop and run across the highway when I noticed a blue tint to the farmland to the East.
This huge meadow full of grazing cows is right across Highway One from the ocean. I can’t begin to describe how lovely this was.
The colors… sort of a lavender/blue came from millions of these beautiful little flowers.
The coast was flattening out, but the beaches still have that wild Northern California feel. Did you spot the lighthouse in that picture above? I tried to catch it when the light was turned towards me, but that is harder than it sounds.
And then… BAM… just a few miles on, and I was at the elephant seal beach.
All the females and kids were just resting while the bulls were being… you know… guys…
There was a lot of snuggling going on.
This beach was huge… and noisy… and kind of smelly… but as my mom always says; “Nature in the wild is seldom mild.”

HA! You posted backwards but I read backwards, so I got it right!
Ha… I still have a few more posts… I win! And that is totally cheating.
🙂
wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thanks for the tour.
I am not done yet
I’ll bet the field of flowers looked more colorful in person. I’ve found it’s hard to make a camera do a field of flowers justice.
I hate that
