Tikis, turtles, flowers, food and some fat bananas…

More random pictures of our magical second honeymoon on Maui…

Our family sent us that huge bouquet of tropical flowers… right to our hotel room… so we could enjoy them all week. I decided to take this picture of them and include that cool tiki we bought in Lahaina town… and the little wooden sea turtle. But while we were in Lahaina, we also bought some cool necklaces…

That isn’t a very good picture. There is a story behind the necklaces. They are in the shape of a heart, to symbolize love. And they are carved with four parts to symbolize family, the mother and father, the son and the daughter. They used to be carved from whale bone, but now they use cow bone. Let me see if I can give you a better look at them…

a 1 a 3We bought the tiki and the matching necklaces on our actual anniversary. I think that is a splendid way to remember that day. I showed you a picture earlier of the guy who carved the tiki. He was putting the date on the bottom for us. There is something cool about meeting the guy who did a work of art that you end up with. I talked to him for quite a while. Because, you know, I carve tikis too.

Hey, remember the goat farm we visited. Here is a picture of some of the goat cheese we bought…

Oh yeah, goat cheese, a nice salami, some apple slices… and what the heck is that??? Is that macadamia nut pie???

a 1 a 5Why yes, yes it is. We got that pie at the small bakery that Laural and Kirk showed us, the one near his art studio. Think: pecan pie… but maybe even better…

Good food and a great view…

a 1 a 6I loved eating on the deck at the hotel. It worked for breakfast too…

a 1 a 7Pancakes with coconut syrup, and omelet with sourdough toast, and some more fried rice with Portuguese sausage… oh man…

So Laural and Kirk also have this little garden. It is on a piece of land where locals can rent small plots to grow food. This is where I took quite a few of those pictures of flowers that I shared with you earlier…

a 1 a 8How cool is that… a community garden… where people can grow their own bananas…

Or they can grow these things… whatever the heck they are… I should have asked somebody… because they look like pregnant bananas to me…
