Yeah… sorry about that… I had a technical issue with my camera due to taking pictures by tiki torchlight… and because I was really drunk…
Once again, I would like to thank my wife’s sister and her husband for getting us a sweet deal on the big luau using their status as locals…
There they are… Laural and Kirk… aren’t they cute together? And they just sent me a box that has a bunch of cool stuff… including a whole lot more pictures of our trip, because Kirk is a heck of a photographer… so there might be some pictures of dancing-girls in that box…
We had some great food at the luau…
Yes… I know it’s blurry… but that is how it looked to me… because… wait… let me back up a little…
See, they served all the free tropical adult beverages you could possibly consume… so my camera work leaves a little to be desired…
They did cook some pigs in the traditional method…
By burying it in the sand and letting it steam all day…
That isn’t all of it… there were a few pigs in there… but I was holding the camera above my head because of the crowd…
And as I have mentioned, I was drunk… so we are lucky any of these pictures even turned out at all…
There were lots of things to do before the dancing and eating even started…
We learned how to husk a coconut using only muscle power and a sharp stake… This is quite funny to watch if you are standing behind the guy… and drunk…
I should have taken a video of that… but anyway… my wife learned how to hula dance, we saw native arts and crafts, and it was a lot of fun…

I want to eat stuffs buried in sand. And WHAT?! No girls in grass skirts?! I am seriously tempted to disown you this instant….
I think other people got some pictures.
Any more pics of the coconut guy? 😉
Ha… you would have loved it if I got a video… from behind it looked almost pornographic.
Hawaii just leapt up my to do list
yay
But pass on the poi! It looks all wonderful & delicious & my favorite color too (purple), but gag!
It is not a particularly tasty dish…
Was that at that plantation (sorry, I forget the name) on Maui? Where you are conveniently herded in through the gift shop while you “wait” for the little train to pick you up and tour you through the orchards? BEST. PORK. EVER! 😀
No, we missed that one… there was no train, but you did sort of start off in a gift shop.
Must be a strategy there… LOL
I suspect there is.
Pingback: Really? You went to a luau on Maui and we don't even get to see pictures of dancing girls in grass skirts???
wheeeeee
What’s with the coconut husking – with a stick? Wow.
They didn’t have metal tools… back in the day…
Touristy? Yes. But an absolute must do at least once if you are going to Maui. One night in a crowd is worth it especially if you have indulged in a lot of beverages. It would have been fun to see how you disguised your wife in a video of her learning to hula.
I am working on ideas for that…
Great shots! Sounds like you had a great time!
It was magicalicious…
