Our busy day on Maui… part 2…

a 1 a 1

Oh yeah… that’s me… standing on top of a volcano… with the crater behind me.  This is just one of the things we did with Kirk and Laural on that crazy day. Here they are, bundled up against the cold. Because that is how tall the volcano was…

We were above the clouds, and when we first walked to the edge of the crater, you couldn’t see more than twenty or thirty feet. All of a sudden, the clouds opened up…

And they opened up a little more…

By the time I took that first picture of myself, the sun was shining on us. There is also an observatory and a secret government base that is covered with antennas on top of the volcano…

a 1 a 5All in all, it was a surreal place to be. We also saw a bunch of those silver sword plants I showed you in an earlier post. They only grow in this one spot. Yes, I could have shown you all of the pictures of our second honeymoon in order and not done all the flowers together and mixed things up so much, but if you want to see normal, what are you doing here on my blog?

Parts of the landscape reminded me of Mars… not that I am admitting I have visited Mars…

a 1 a 7There were too many clouds below us to get a good view of the ocean…

a 1 a 8It sort of felt like we had left Maui and ended up on a smaller, colder island in a sea of clouds. But they did have this nice map up there…

a 1 a 9Okay, that’s enough for today. I will finish this series of posts about the big day tomorrow. We both deserve a break.

I’m glad you pointed out where I was, otherwise I wouldn’t have known! Ha!

What’s the secret station about? Is it secret? Or is it doing the same ol stuff, just needed a high place to do it?

  3. The one thing I did not do on Maui was walk the volcano. My first trip I flew over it in a helicopter but I did not get up close and personal like you did. Thanks for sharing the photos.
