As I said before, if they go to the trouble of making part of the island of Maui into a State Park, you know it is something special…
And, oh yeah, it was…
We started off hiking uphill through a dripping forest of twisted trees…
On our right, a river valley kept getting deeper and deeper as we climbed…
At first, the river was not very far below us, and it was raging, thanks to a particularly rainy rainy season…
You could catch glimpses of the ocean far off through the jungle canopy…
This was some serious jungle, let me tell you…
Ha… I just noticed that those last two shots are basically the same view, but one is clearer than the other. I wish I could figure out which one was my phone and which was the camera I got for Father’s Day, because one definitely takes better pictures. Sort of… I mean, the one with the better colors is just a bit too dark on the trees in the foreground… I should really figure this out… but for now, all you need to know is that when we rounded a bend after a few more minutes, this is what we saw…

Check out the sky in the two like pictures. The second photo looks lusher because the first one is overexposed…or not. Or not because it depends on what you wanted “properly” exposed. If you want detail in the sky and nice lush colors, the one with “less” exposure is the camera to use. If you want detail in the shadows or darker areas, the first camera is the one to use. Actually, you just need to learn how to adjust the exposure for what you want. Sometimes you will see a little +/- indicator in the frame. Find how to increase or decrease that number and that will adjust your exposure. Like +3. +2. +1. -1. -2. -3. You may even see the exposure change in the frame. When you get the exposure to match, look for which camera has the sharpest picture of the two. That is the one you want to take pictures with that you might want to enlarge. Now go back to Maui and take a do over. Tough duty, huh?
I think I will get a better camera and then adjust it properly… on Maui… sigh
