I finished my latest novel… part 2…

a 3 copy

So, it is time to make a book cover! As I said, I am doing it all, right here, on the blog. And yes, I am using my younger daughter as the model. She is supposed to be Princess Hildread Halfmoon, the awesome main character. Yes, that is a helmet that I actually own. Hey, don’t judge me. The jacket is also mine.

Some of you might have noticed that the helmet is on backwards in this photo. That is because it isn’t supposed to end up looking like an American Army helmet when I am done in Photoshop. Princess Hildy leads the resistance army in the struggle against the evil empire in the novel… so that PVC pipe will end up being a spear, if this is the photo I choose to make into the cover art.

Or I might end up using that one. I told Mollie to give me her best war face. There are a lot of choices to make for this cover art. I am going to spend some time doing some mock ups, and then I will post those. Now it is all about the layout. Something that captures the spirit of the book, and the teenage princess who has to lead an army.

I will get back to you soon.

I finished my latest novel… part 1…

seven kingdoms map copy

Some of you may recall that I was posting chapters of my newest novel, The Seven Kingdoms, as I was writing it… it is still there, the parts I posted, at least, under the button labeled: The Seven Kingdoms, in my top bar up at the top of the blog. It isn’t all there. I need to sell my books sooner or later, but the unedited, first two-thirds are there.

I have done my first self-edit. I am going to self-publish it before too long, and I will start sending samples to literary agents soon. So far, I have gotten a lot of ‘no’ replies to my self-illustrated children’s books, my action/humor sci-fi series, and the murder mystery set in World War Two London.

Starting tomorrow, I am going to begin working on the cover for The Seven Kingdoms, right here on the blog. I will show you step by step how I am going to do the cover art, like I did with the murder mystery. This time, I used my younger daughter, Mollie, as a model for the main character.

Don’t get confused when I start showing the photos. She will look more like a soldier than a princess. But don’t worry, we can fix that in Photoshop. I mean, she will still look like a soldier, because, in the book, they are fighting a war… but more like a soldier on a made-up world.

Oh, and I will also be working on that map up there too. I just did that quick water color map while I was writing the book, to get in the mood. But if I can fix it up, I might put it in the book.

Okay, fine, I give up!

Don’t go to Lunapic.com where you can do all these crazy-cool effects to any photo, for free, with no trouble at all, and make your blog art more interesting.

a 4

It’s not like they are paying me to do this.

a 5

I’m just trying to be helpful.

Yes, in my own weird way I am still trying to get all of you to try that free internet site where you can do all kinds of cool effects on any photo, for free, with no more than a few mouse-clicks. Okay, I could even show you how to stick your head inside things like this Escher drawing, but for that, you need mad art skillz and Photoshop.

But to take any picture… like the one up there, for example, and do stuff like this…

Or this…

Or even this…

Is no trouble at all.

Now, if I could just get anyone to express some interest…
