I am making progress on the book for children that I am writing and illustrating… It is called ‘I Like You’… hence the clever titles for this series of posts… I have managed to take this photo of my shoe…

… and turn it into this…

Now, my comfy old size-fifteen shoe, thanks to the magic of Photoshop, looks more like a weirdly-realistic shoe… or a painting of a shoe… or something. (Hopefully, these changes are enough to keep me from being sued by the company that makes my shoes)… Now, I know that none of this makes any sense yet… I still haven’t shared the text of the book, which is a cute little poem I wrote, and I am sure you are wondering what I am trying to do, exactly. It might help if you did a search on my series of posts from my last book for kids, called: The Lonely Little Wizard, so you can see what writing and illustrating a book for kids is like… but if you are too lazy to do that, here is a mockup of what this finished page might end up looking like once it has words on it…

The poem contains a bunch of words that rhyme with you and shoe… and I have to take a bunch of real photographs and try to turn them into something like this… with lots of bright colors, because this book is aimed at really young kids. Just so you know, when I do share the poem, there is going to be a lot of repetition, because little kids love that. It helps them feel like they are participating when a parent or someone reads it to them, because they have it mostly memorized, and this boosts confidence, and makes them want to learn to read.
And you thought I was just another pretty face.

Now that is some shoe!
Leslie
ummm… thanks???
Instead, you’re just another smelly foot!
Actually a smelly 15 inches Elyse – Ha!
hey now… oh… you mean my feet… well, yeah…
well, that was going to be happening anyway… so…
