We went camping… part 6… wait… is that a tank driving down the road???

a 10When we went to that festival at the tractor and farm equipment museum, I wasn’t really expecting to see a tank driving in.

a 11No, it didn’t drive all the way there from Camp Pendleton. It was brought there on a flatbed trailer.

a 12I don’t know why it was there. The only connection between tanks and farm equipment that I can see is the fact that some farm equipment rides on tracks like a tank. But you know me… I love the military history stuff… so I walked out and took some pictures.

a 13I wasn’t expecting it to drive off the trailer and do a U-turn on the street, and then drive in to join in the festival. Those things are pretty hard on pavement.

a 14I am also a little surprised that I don’t know what kind of tank that is. I think it is a Korean War or Vietnam War era tank. Somebody could Google it.

a 15Well, that almost wraps it up for pictures of our little camping weekend.

a 16We can say goodbye to the horny dragonflies…

a 17And to the cute little lake with all the ducks and geese… but I do have one more post about that festival later… and I am really excited about it… so I hope you come back.

Awesome Art. Love tanks. In answer to your comment about damage – that tank has rubber pads on the treads so it doesn’t hurt the pavement. Our guys do that for operating over roads and around cites and for parades. They can roll on a set of off road treads in very short order – and do so for practice changing treads in the field. My Dad had a friend who was a tank commander for Rommel in The North African Desert in WW2 and we used to go and listen to his stories. Rommel was a career soldier and not a Nazi. Anyway I do believe your tank is an M-60 Patton tank from the cold war. They were the main battle tank from about 1960.

Great pictures – I hope your vacation went well.
