In an earlier post, I mentioned that we had rooms at the hotel on Maui where we stayed for part of our second honeymoon. I don’t mean that we had a luxury apartment with multiple rooms… I meant that we actually moved four times. Let me explain.
We did not originally start off with this view…
We started off in a room on the lower of the two floors. This was very convenient in some ways. We were only about 50 feet from the beach…
And it was a lovely room. But we didn’t really have a very good view of the ocean, and there wasn’t as much privacy as there could have been. There was no air conditioning, so you wanted to let the breezes in, but on the ground floor, with people walking by, this was a problem at bed time…
So the next morning, we asked if there was a vacancy on the second floor. And there was… for two nights. Then, another room on the upper floor, just two doors away from the one we were moving to, would be open for a few days…
So we moved into one room, then another room, and then another room… and then back to our first room on the ground floor for the last night…
And they all looked more or less the same…
And it wasn’t like we had to move far, or had too much stuff to move…
Does that all make sense? But the upstairs rooms did have the nice views…
And of course, I met all those lizards and took a lot of those flower pictures at this lovely hotel. And it really was an awesome place to stay. We felt very at home, and the people were lovely. But mostly, it was the views… and the beach… and the privacy…
Although, even on the second floor, you would get the occasional unexpected visitors…

Sometimes unexpected visitors can be the best kind!
well that sort of depends…
Did you unpack each time
Not every time.
I can imagine it being like a scene from Fawlty Towers
My life is a scene from every British comedy show…
Do you fall over a lot like Miranda?
No… but that girl cracks me up.
It is worth moving around to always have a room with a view. My last visit there we were able to have our morning coffee on the balcony watching the whales playing in front of us and they would frolic for us again at the end of the day as the sun went down.
oh my… frolicking…
Yes. Frolicking.
oh yeah
Very funny! It sounds like you couldn’t go wrong in any of the rooms but while there, it makes sense to enjoy ocean views! Why did you go back to the original room the last night? Not being nosy or anything…just wondering. 🙂
The rooms upstairs were reserved.
Wait – No Air Conditioning?
Big fans… cool ocean breezes… and it wasn’t the height of summer…
At least no one could say your room had a repetitive view
no they cannot
Clearly you are a patient guy all that moving would drive me crazy
We looked at it as upgrading… and being downstairs on the last day made packing the car easier…
Did you have to check out and then check back in every time?
sort of… I mean, I walked to the office and exchanged the keys.
That’s a lot of moving. lol
It was fun…
Awesome!
yup
