I could have called this post “More random pictures of our trip to visit my mom in the Bay Area’…
But that doesn’t have the same ring to it.
For years my brothers and I have been teasing my mom about the rugs that have been in her living room since we were all kids way back in the 1960’s. That being said, we all love those rugs. They are bright and colorful and cheerful and fun. We all grew up playing on those rugs. But they do look like something bought at a yard sale at the Brady Bunch house…
You just can’t help but smile when you look at them…
And the fact that they are side by side in the same room just makes them that much cooler.
I also realized that there were a couple of my works of art from long ago that I have not shared with you. My mom has them proudly framed and hung on display along with artwork done by my brothers. Because that is the way moms are.
That is probably the second watercolor I ever did. I just wanted to try to play with the way that light and color would collide if you put two colored glass bottles together with one slightly behind the other. It didn’t turn out to be everything I hoped for. I think I got the paper too wet, and it wasn’t really the right kind of paper. But it looks okay in real life hanging in our kitchen.
Here is the first watercolor I ever did.
For some reason I never finished this one. But my mom says that just adds to the picture somehow. And who am I to argue with my mother? I think I was just a kid when I did these. At least that is my story and I am sticking to it.
While I was in my mom’s computer room/office, trying to type my blog posts on a computer that I do not know how to use and that kept getting booted off the internet, I happened to spot this robin in the tree outside the window…
These berry trees… whatever they are called… are very common in the Bay Area. When the berries have aged a bit, they seem to make the robins drunk. This fat little fellow stayed on that branch for more than a half an hour, gobbling down those berries at an incredible rate. Then he would stop eating for a minute or two before starting in again. When was the last time you ever saw a bird stay in one place for that long?
I am throwing in one picture of a dog that belongs to the kid who lives across the street from my mom. Because you know I love dogs. And so does Mollie…
That is Lilly the dog. And Mollie the human.
And one picture of a sunset taken from my mom’s livingroom… just because I like the colors.
Thanks for being here. I am almost done clearing off my camera again, and then we can get back to the weird stuff that I normally… or abnormally… do.

Love the rugs, which are quite fashionable and a testimony to your mother’s good taste. Love the framed artwork too. The bottles look like they’re meant to be that way. Mollie is very pretty.
Thanks… (X5)…
I’ve seen those berry bushes before, and in all fairness to them they do have a little sticker on the base that reads, ‘do not operate heavy machinery after stuffing your little fat face you greedy fat robin.’ So no harm shoulda become of it.
Till the cat got there…
I know…..they didn’t have enough money to produce the, ‘For god’s sake watch out for the cats!’ sticker too…they made their choice, and they stand by it.
It is all about choice.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a robin so fat!
He is like a stuffed turkey.
That bird. …hilarious!
Until they fly into a window.
I thought about that in my journey to work and I was giggling. The very idea of a shitfaced bird. 😀
One is funny. Hundreds… not so much.
Very Hitchcockian
Angry drunken birds… best movie title ever… or is it a computer game???
How many infringement laws would that break?
That would be one great movie. The Birds meets Eight Legged Freaks meets Leaving Las Vegas
dude… we so need to colaborate on something.
I love love LOVE the watercolor paintings 🙂 Of course she framed them!!
Thanks.
These pics were so good that you could have still titled this post “A trip to my Mom’s house” and it would be a winner! Thanks for sharing!
I am having fun, but I am glad you are too.
I know it wasn’t intentional, but the old watercolour of the glass bottles kind of looks like they’ve melted together, which is kind of cool..
I got a little carried away with the water…
I especially like your mom’s rugs and the pix of the robin. The bird reminds me of my childhood in Ohio, and the rugs remind me there are other crazy people in this world besides me!
I like to think that back in the 70’s everybody had rugs that cool… but they didn’t… ha!
