The Qualm…

These are the Qualm. They are an alien race, residing in my sci fi novel, The Saloon At The Edge Of Everywhere. There are three of them in this picture, not that it really matters. They are a group mind, and whatever one Qualm knows, all the Qualm know, no matter how great the distance that separates them. They are also empathic. They cannot read the minds of other species, but they can feel the emotions of others.

They seem to float above the ground without really touching it, and they have been described as blue-green veils drapped over a helium balloon. They would be considered beautiful by humans, if it weren’t for the fact that their faces resemble nothing so much as a writhing plate of spaghetti. Well, nature gives with one hand while it takes away with the other…

  2. So there is no Qualm with privacy…. ok they are like the fates kinda – diggin your picture the spaghetti faces just bring it on home… I am not a sci fi fan – but I am really enjoying this..

I LOVE the Qualm, they’re my favorite. I didn’t imagine them quite this way; more opaque and with less pronounced facial features. I still LOVE them.

    • To tell the truth, I pictured them the same way… more see-through. I used a real picture of spagghetti for the faces and just felt they needed some recognizable features. You crack me up, by the way. Good character imagination. Maybe I should work on the picture a little more, get rid of the eyes at least. But they are just sort of to remind people who is who.
