The idea of putting my novel on this blog is about the scariest thing I have ever done, and that says a lot, when you consider the fact that I have more near-death-experience stories than anyone I have ever met.
I thank you all for the advice, but I have decided, at least for now, to go ahead and do it. Jessica explained it to me in ways that make a lot of sense, and according to all the reading I have done, this will not keep me from getting published. In fact, the opposite may well be true. Going to a publisher with a book that already has a following can be a huge help in this competitive world where everybody writes something.
I guess the main thing that Jessica convinced me of, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, is that my 270 followers are not a big enough group to take a real bite out of any possible market for my book at a future date. And who knows, I may well panic, or read something that changes my mind about this venture, and stop posting chapters.
Also, I will let you in on a little secret. The real title of my novel should be; Saloon at the Edge of Everywhere, Book One of the Universe Chronicles, because I already have ideas popping into my cranium for a whole series of books, each one better than the rest.
So stop worrying about it. That is what I am going to try to do. Let’s just have fun. Be my focus group. Give me feedback. Give the story a chance to suck you in to the weird universes inside my mind, and let’s take a journey through space and time and laughter. And who knows, you may help me make my dream of becoming a published author come true.
Join me tomorrow for chapter one.

As long as you remember us original 270 when your series hits it big…. We want a kickback on royalties 😀
But you get to read it for free.
Yea, but if you hit JK Rowling billions, we need to talk. 😀
That seems fair.
Go for it – there’s only one way to find out……..I read the first pages by the way and enjoted them!
Thanks. Long time no see.
Dang. I skip one day and miss the unveiling. Story of my life. And here I wanted to be all supportive and encouraging like everybody else. I used to say better late than never but then I had a dear Uncle whose birthday card I failed to get mailed so he would get it on his birthday. I did then get it mailed a day or two later and wrote better late than never on it…and you guessed it…he died the evening that I mailed it. So it was not better late than never that time. I quit saying that since then. So guess I’ll just say onward and upward.
There is a life lesson in there for all of us.
Here’s a hint, nobody will ever buy your book without being able to read the first chapter anyway. Worst thing that happens is someone steals the first chapter then writes a completely different story from you then on out.
But I am supposed to put the whole thing up here… at least that is the plan.
Bring it on, writer guy. I’m curious as all get out. (huh?)
Wow, when you all get supportive, nobody does it better.
Jessica makes a great point, we’re a small focus group, not a legitimate test market and as Eagle-Eyed said- we’re your friends.
I love you guys…
Same.
I have to get Mollie ready for school. In about an hour and a half, I am launching this freekin rocket ship!!! You always said you wanted more writing, right?
YAY!!! I’ll be reading, don’t you worry!
Okay, see you in a bit.
Hey, relax. You’re among friends here. 😉
Thanks, I needed that.
I’m grabbing my cocaine, razor blade and mirror! Can’t wait
Be careful grabbing the razor blade…
Bracing myself…:-)
Me too, my friend.
Oh, my!
Lions and tigers and bears… ?
yep. You guessed it.
I also guess a lot.
that’s truly an alien quality right there…
Well it would be, wouldn’t it?
Looking forward to reading it! 🙂
Thank you, oh kind and wise two-headed bird creature.
