   Did you know that Benjamin Franklin wanted to have the turkey designated as the national bird of the U.S. and not the eagle? He believed eagles were purely scavengers and not deserving of the nobility of the democratic concept that America was supposed to represent. Besides, America’s indigenous peoples regarded the eagle as a sacred animal. Fortunately, the Indians won that battle.
