Wait… is that another roadrunner???

a 1

Why yes, yes it is. My wife and I spotted that one in a parking lot near Palm Springs in California when we stopped on the way home from Sedona to get a bite to eat. I don’t know what the odds are of seeing two roadrunners in one long weekend… but I do know I have only seen a handful in my whole life leading up to that.

I was going to call this post the final chapter of our adventure… but I realized I still have a few pictures on my phone and my daughter’s phone, from when we climbed that crazy hill in the desert. That picture up there is what high desert looks like. I took all of these after we left Sedona for the long drive back home to San Diego.

Then, as we descended from the high desert, we passed through the miles of hills covered with the majestic saguaro cacti…

I love those big, pointy plants.

If you had to pick one plant to represent the American Southwest, to be the mascot, as it were, that would be the one.

And then, eventually, we were back in California…

a 8

Yup… California… where you can stand in desert sand… under a palm tree… and look at snow-covered peaks… if all the power lines and smog don’t block your view.

a 9

Because that is how we roll in the southland…

Okay, the quality of that picture is horrible… but you know I can’t waste a picture of me.
