Birds and words… part 7…

I saw a bald eagle!a 1

This is the very first time I have ever seen one in the wild, even though I have lived in America all my life.

They are big birds, but they aren’t easy to spot. The nice ranger lady who drove the boat spotted four of them. She would point to a tree a mile away and say: “See that white spot?”…

It turned into quite a game, with all the rest of us trying to be the first to see it.

It really was exciting.

You can see the eagle in that picture above, right?

a 6

HA! Good thing we brought the telephoto lens.

I told you I was saving the best bird for last!

Eagles are the most majestic birds. When I travelled to Arkaroola (outback Australia) last year wedge tail eagles were everywhere. It was absolutely amazing to see.

I do love eagles. They’ve really returned strongly to the East Coast in the last 4-5 years or so. We have a nesting pair that hang out on the Potomac River not far from our house, so we have occasional sightings. In Maine, when we’re there in the summer, we see them a lot.

They are wonderful birds. You did save the best for last, but I loved your other birds, too.
