Careful, that’s an awful young looking you on that cover Art – the false advertising police will get you. Ha! I had a girl friend when I was a young buck, who was a TV producer. She worked for a production company in Boston called Century III Teleproductions, affectionately known as C3. Along with some long running syndicated TV programs, they also produced high end commercials. They were shooting a Mercedes commercial one day while I was there and it was focusing on the safety aspects of the design. They were scripted to drop the Mercedes from a helicopter (they were given three stripped new cars for “destructive purposes” – meaning only parts were expected back). They looked like show room models from a distance but had minimal interior , etc. Anyway, it was decided that they would show the helicopter and show the cable with the car, but actually drop the car from a crane – much easier to control the circumstances (a swinging car under a helicopter doesn’t always land where and how you want it, and is expensive to do over again). They had three shots but wanted to earn brownie points by getting it right the first time.So I was with Grace and we were at the airport with a film crew filming the helicopter. There were multiple helicopters there and it was a twin rotor that they were filming – it was very expensive to rent with daily minimums. I asked Grace why they didn’t just use one of the cheaper, more easily available helicopters, since they really weren’t going to swing a car under it anyway- just pretend to. And her response was very interesting – it was required by law that the helicopter they were “pretending” to drop the car from, actually be able to lift the car, even though it was never going to. If they used a lighter chopper, the truth in advertising legislation would kick in and they would be subject to sanctions. I objected that they were only pretending to drop it anyway, and she said that was allowable, as long as the helicopter could lift the car if it had to.

So, beware Art – the truth in advertising people may very well want to see you – it is perfectly acceptable for you to be on the cover of Archie but to look 20 AND to have both girls kissing you, may very well be against the law. Especially the two girls – they have to ask could that be real? And the answer is obvious. Bwahaha!
