Don’t worry. Nobody got hurt.
My wife, Mollie, our 13 year old, and I went to a little place near our house where they sell campers and motor homes. We are thinking of upgrading our little pop-up trailer. We parked my wife’s Honda CRV around the corner. When we got back to the car, the side was smashed in. A lady had rammed our car sideways into the curb, hopped the curb, taken out two electrical boxes, and a metal fence. A neighbor told us she had driven away, saying she had to pick up her kids at soccer. She didn’t get far on her rim without the tire on it. The cops caught her. Drunk driving and hit and run. She has some bad days coming.
And it turns out she really was on her way to pick up her kids at soccer, according to the sheriff.
So maybe, in a strange way, we saved someone’s life tonight by stopping her. Maybe her own kids.
Something to think about.

Drunk drivers are one of the worst things that can happen to anyone on the road…
Right. And it is not that hard to get someone else to drive, or wait till you are done driving for the day. She was going to risk her life, her kids lives, and all the other people’s lives that were near her that day. Thank you for commenting.
I missed this one yesterday, but sweet fancy Moses, what a close call. Glad nobody was hurt and that this crazy woman is off the road.
It is a tough way to learn a lesson. But even when I was a teen and drank way too much, I never drove.
It sucks for her kids… not the not being picked up part, but the mom in jail part.
I’m with you. Don’t drink and drive. Nevermind picking up her kids. There was this huge news story a few years ago about these soccer mom types that were drinking from the pressure of being “perfect” or giving up their lives. Crazy world…
Preachin’ to the choir…
Her poor kids. Very pleased you guys are all okay. Did you find an upgrade?
All the details will have to go through, after she gets out of the slammer.
That was a fairly cryptic response.
It will take a while for the insurance companies to sort through all the details because the drunk driver hit multiple objects, the police are involved, and because she is still in jail, I hope, so they can’t talk directly to her. Also, they don’t really want to give us money.
Of course, they don’t want to give you any money. I deal with insurance adjusters in my other life. If you have difficulty, you may want to place a call to the attorney at the state insurance commission to move things along to resolution. Your state may also allow you to request another adjuster due to a “no faith claim”. As a last resort, it never hurts to call the state attorney general’s office.
Solidarity with the People!
Thank you. It has only been a day, so we aren’t at that stage yet, but that is useful advice.
That’s what happens when one gets along in years one offers useful advice. Ready for the glue factory… .
Then you can give us good advice about glue.
Even when you don’t try you’re a hero.
Thank God you guys are safe.
Thank you. Funny thing is, we didn’t even hear the crash even though we were just a hundred or so feet away.
My uncle was killed by a drunk driver. He was cute and funny and someone took that away. I’m glad you weren’t in the car. Glad she never picked up the kids.
What the h—was she thinking? (rhetorical)
It is one of the few vices for which I have no sympathy.
This is exactly why I have never even had a single driving lesson, I drink too often, when would I have time to drive a car! Glad everyone was ok, what an irresponsible woman!
I didn’t get my license until I was 20. I knew I should never drive a car during those teen years.
Sorry about the car, but you are right about saving someone else’s life, and I’m so glad that you and your wife weren’t hurt.
Thanks.
Heavy stuff, man. Glad nobody was hurt, but on her way to pick up the kids? Yikes.
People are nuts.
