By far the best part of our day trip to see the farm equipment and tractor museum is the fact that they have this huge barn… and inside it, they have a whole bunch of blacksmith shops…
I have always wanted to try blacksmithing.
And winter is coming… no, that isn’t a Game Of Thrones reference. It is just really hot in San Diego, and the idea of standing over a forge or pounding red-hot metal on an anvil when it is over 100 degrees in the barn sounds less than fun.
This is going to be so awesome. I am going to try to make a Viking axe… or a sword… who knows if they will even let me do that… but I am so excited.
There is also a woodworking shop in there, so I can hopefully make an axe handle too.
Maybe I will even make a forge in my backyard… out of bricks… with a leaf blower to fan my coal fire… how cool would that be? I can hardly wait to hang out with these people. Of all the kinds of art I already do or have ever wanted to do, the idea of making metal do what you want it to sounds crazy.

Did you get your viking sword? With the amount of time my son puts into one single knife I’m guessing not on that one.
I haven’t started the classes yet… and I doubt they will let me make a sword in three lessons.
It will still be fun and who knows what you might come out of there with.
I might even build a forge in my back yard.
It can happen… it’s a highly addictive hobby. At least if the terminator shows up you’ll be able to deal with him.
oh yeah
Go for it!
But I’m also glad you didn’t meet with any nuclear scientists…:)
tell me about it…
We’ll be looking forward to stories of your metalworking. 😀
Me too
yay… thanks!
You should try glassblowing too sometime 🙂
I really want to… but that has to be in the middle of winter.
I am so excited.
