Taking pictures of a far-away object in a dark sky with a zoom lens turns out to be a little trickier than I thought it would be.
The shutter has to stay open for a long time… like 3 or 4 seconds…
Okay… sorry… that one is just obscene…
It is really hard to hold a camera perfectly still for that long, even if you rest it on something.
Mollie decided to use that fact to try to move the camera in a way that would make a heart shape… you gotta love that kid!
But I think all these are at least as cool as a normal photo of the eclipse. I bet you can find billions of good photos of it on the internet.
I doubt very many people are bothering to post pictures like these… and that is why you keep coming back to my blog, right?
But, just in case I am wrong about that, there is a fairly good photo.

That’s just awesome. I’m famous for taking moon photos without a tripod – I’ll brace on anything from my car to a fence to the mail boxes to an old dry sponge mop. That made a good monopod, actually. It also reminds me of when I tried to take a picture of Mars – and the track the bright dot made ended up looking like a big R.
We took pictures of the lunar eclipse and ended up with some wild trails across the sky.
You created embryos hehe
yeah we did
Ha, ha. Just a thought – if you can’t quite make it as a photographer of the night sky, you could always publish photos in a much different (some might say, inappropriate) field.
You did better than I did, however – I couldn’t even see that darn moon through the clouds.
are you suggesting I take pictures of naked people???
No, but the way your long-distance photos get so blurry, you’d probably be safe doing so. 🙂
sigh
Cool shots, Arthur!
thanks
These are much more revealing than the usual eclipse photos.
These are the “mostest funnest” moon photos I’ve seen all day and trust me, wayyyyy too many folks have moon shots going today. I haven’t been mooned by this many friends since high-school in farm country.
oh my
Oh dear…. Don’t you hate it when that happens.
not too much… ha
