Not my best title perhaps, but I am returning to the ‘art’ part of pouring my ‘art’ out. From the dusty walls of my garage and the even dustier reaches of my artistic past, I bring you;
Here is my version of Frank Frazetta’s Death Dealer. He painted it in 1973, and I did mine soon after that, so I was still in my early teens. I love Frazetta. He did a lot of paintings for cover art for books, including Conan pictures… (Robert E. Howard) and quite a few Edgar Rice Burroughs books as well. You should check out his work if you are not familiar with it.
Speaking of my favorite barbarian, there he is. Only Conan can flip one opponent in a judo throw while disemboweling one or two more at the same time. Notice the use of thick paint for blood and real… (fake) jewels. I bet he is getting ready to toss that guy right into a crowd of enemies and send them flying like bowling pins. Oh, Conan, how you do carry on… (I apologize for the blurry top half. I think the fake diamonds lifted it above the correct scan distance)…
I notice I used the thick paint for blood again on this one. I wonder if I added that later from my t-shirt paints? I can’t really remember, but I do know that horses are hard to draw.
Last and perhaps least… (because this oil painting is on a four inch wide canvas, and because I am just going around the garage in a clockwise direction taking stuff off the walls, so some of these are from earlier in my artistic development and not anything to rave about)… is a small alien city.
That is bigger than it is in real life, and I am not sure if that is a good thing. As a small picture, it looks deceptively intricate. At this size it looks like it was much easier to do than it really was. If you write the Gettysburg Address on a grain of rice, that is impressive. If you write it on a piece of paper, that is just homework… or plagiarism…

Excellent work sir.
those are pretty cool…i like the blood………ive got a picture of an english bowman which is copied and enlarged out of one of those ladybird kids books……..its really cool ill post it if i can find it……….btw.alcohol is a stimulant but hops is a sporific…..cant reply on my post as the fields have gotten smaller and smaller and the reply button has gone away…..
Definately some talent there in a straight jacket kind of way
My jacket is straight because I had it tailored…
Its funny because in high school art was my big thing too. I still have my portfolio and I’m fifty. Even though I don’t draw anymore I can’t throw it away. A lot of it is not disimilar to your stuff although not as good. Maybe when I retire I’ll might take it up again.
art history 101
Well a young fella’s gotta see a naked woman somehow.
Well, yes…
I though this blog was kid friendly??? What’s with all of the death??? I can’t show this to my children.
Your usage of fake blood has won me over.
You keep thinking it’s fake…
Nice work! I can’t write anything on rice until I receive treatment for Carbohydrophobia.
I am laughtose intolerant…
Ok, you write on the rice while I laugh. I’m in favor of bartering.
or ‘artering’, as the case may be.
I’ll have to take a picture of the huge Death Dealer we have hanging in our house. Sometime. Unless I forget.
I knew I liked you.
I think I was looking at your post while you were looking at mine. We have to stop missing each other like this. We just pass by on our way through the blogosphere, like hot air balloons… which is funny if you think about it.
