Back to basics…

(Or);  Yo ho yo ho, an artists life for me…

I have strayed far from my roots lately. It is time to pull a few more pieces of eight…uh, I mean art… down from the walls of my garage and try to jam them into my scanner. The picture above, which you may recognize from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, is done on a block of wood. I used some of my left over t-shirt paint from my failed fashion designer days, so the paint is very thick, lending the picture a sort of 3D effect.

In this attempt to scan the art from my garage… uh, I mean gallery, I have decide to try something new. Rather than doing the old and not so good stuff first, or going straight for the most impressive works, I am just going to start in one corner and work my way around. This will mean that we will just sort of randomly skip around when it comes to both the ages of the artwork and my skill level.

Oh, look, it is our old friend Conan. This picture is done on a very small wooden plaque, so the scan came out bigger than the picture itself. I think it is more impressive in the original form, but I like the little tiny Conan running from the rock slide. That is just the sort of thing he found himself doing on a slow day. If he were alive today, no doubt he would be hydroplaning in a van somewhere.

The little Santa tiger is a picture I gave to my wife’s Grandparents one Christmas. I took it back after they passed away. They were good people.

Oh, Conan, where are you going with those two girls? I have gone on record as saying that Conan is a misunderstood barbarian who never took a woman against her will, and would in fact be a wonderfull next door neighbor and babysitter. So do not take this picture out of context. No doubt Conan is just saving these two maidens from a burning building or a dragon’s den.

This lecherous Sultan with the interesting bodyguards however, you may judge as you wish. And I apologize for the wardrobe malfunction on one of the young ladies, but I assure you that this was done as an exercise in drawing the female form, nothing else.

No doubt this new post has caused some confusion among those of you who are new to my blog. If you just joined us recently, you probably think that I am just a teller of tales about driving a delivery van. You will be unaware of the fact that I am an artist and musician, and am in fact a certified freak of nature who is entirely art-side of-the-brain oriented. I am well aware that my entire blog only make sense if you read it from the bottom up… (or the very beginning, in other words)… So I apologize for the confusion. I can only say that if you are ever stuck at home for a week with a bad flu, and your cable TV is broken, then please feel free to go to the very first post back at the end of last year, and just zip through the whole thing as fast as you can scroll. If something catches your eye, just stop and browse. I have been lucky enough to convince a few people to do this, and either they thought it was worth their time, or they were too polite to say otherwise.

I do know that if you have read just a little about me and reached the conclusion that I am one of the weirdest people you have ever run across, you still have no real idea just how weird I am.

Haha, oh Conan. Rescuing two fine damsels against their will I see. These are really good though!

  5. Dear pmao,

Nope, I’m still reading (well not at this moment, I’m writing a post). It might have been the nun. She might be giving you the glad eye.

Very sweet about your wife’s grandparents, both the present and your affection for them.

You’ve got the female form down, too bad the clothing you drew was too small to fit the subject.
