Bear with me while I figure out how to do offsite photo storage, or just go back and start deleting less popular posts while simultaneously reposting the good stuff, in between making more cool stuff, as I clear away the deadwood.

Just remove the pictures from your site that are old and not used anymore. The old posts will lose them, true, but at the same time… the posts will still be there.
I am doing a mix of that and reposting as I go. Thanks.
