Way before I, or anyone else, ever heard of Weird Al Yankovic, I developed a fascination with rewriting songs to make them funny. It is an easy and amusing way to spend your time and play with words.
This is a little number Jessica, my older daughter, and I did at a family reunion talent show when she was very young. We brought the house down.
It is sung to the catchy tune that the dwarfs sing in that Disney movie, you know, when they are going off to work in the mines…
And it is called ‘the Buffalo Song’.
————————————————————————————————
Hi hoooooooooo… hi hooooooooooo……
Hi ho, hi ho,
We’ll eat a buffalo…
And we will show him who’s the boss…
Slap him all over with the A1 sauce…
Hi ho, hi ho hi ho hi ho, hi ho…
He’s a tasty buffalo…
And he will know just what to do…
He’ll jump right on that barbecue…
And he’ll sit there…
Without a care…
‘Till his derrière…
Is medium rare..
Hi ho, hi ho hi ho… etc… (Repeat as necessary)…

If you could see the little dance we worked out to go with the song, particularly the big figure-eight arm swings we made when we were slapping on the A1 sauce, you would be ROTFLing right now.
It’s cute!
yay
All I can see in the picture fo garnishes are mustard and ketchup -=where’sthe BBQ sauce? Ha! Trucking story alert! i was driving sourh through farm land headed into Toronto when the road took a long right sweep around in a curve, obviously avoiding a price of pasture land they couldn’t buy when they built the 4-lane.Settled quite comfortably into their lunch, a herd of buffalo – perhaps 40 or 50 – were ranged around the field but a high concentration were in the center surrounding a large billboard standing there. On te billboard was a huge sign, abiut 2 stories high. The sign read “Cows for Sale”. And i can recalkl quite clearly thinking : You can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time – but you can’t fool me – them’s buffalo.
Ha Ha! That’s clever 🙂 I’ve been meaning to scold you Paul, I’ve had that doggone REO song stuck in my head for days now! Heard it from a friend who… it’s called and ear worm and it’s making me crazy. So, thanks a lot! ;p
Heard it from a friend who …. See? You heard it from a friend. 🙂
the circle of life continues…
it could be worse
I suppose it could.
(It’s a small world after all)
Why you… I outta… Arghhhhh!
(I’d like to teach the world to sing)
Now I just want a Coke.
Buffalo really is tasty… that’s all I can say.
I could really really go for some buffalo right now…
it is so lean and tasty.
Are we still talking about buffalo?
yes we are
Dang.
ha
Back in the day, I used to love Yanni (yes, I admit it, I loved the guy…well, his music), but no one in my family, other than me, appreciated his musical artistry. So whenever we were in the car for an extended period of time and I had a Yanni tape (yes, that was back in the cassette tape day) they would complain about having to listen to “Yawny.” So I made up a game. We would make up words to his music (which had no lyrics, by the way). And they would love coming up with silly lyrics to his songs. So I got to listen to Yanni and they got to have fun concocting silly lyrics. It was a win-win. Your Buffalo Song post today reminded me of that. Thanks. It’s a good memory.
I am glad you enjoyed it.
Groovy, Bra! Kinda catchy with a disco funk!
I think that is the vibe that the writers were going for in the movie about the 7 exploited little people miners.
